Motorhome Tow Vehicle Braking System Mesa AZ
Taking off on the road with your motorhome is the very definition of freedom. Being able to drive into tighter spots, or explore the narrow roads of some American cities isn’t friendly when you are driving a motorhome so having regular passenger vehicle with you makes the trip more fun and adventurous. Driving both vehicles separately uses more fuel and keeps both drivers awake during the trip.

Towing a vehicle along with you saves fuel and makes it so only one person needs to be awake to drive at a time. Towing a vehicle behind your motorhome does require some additional braking systems to meet highway laws and to keep everyone on the road safe.

Tow Vehicle Braking Systems Installation

We offer great options to make towing your passenger vehicle behind your motorhome affordable to purchase and install, and easy to use. We carry SMI and Roadmaster tow vehicle braking systems.

SMI Brake Systems

Two of our most popular tow vehicle braking systems are made by SMI Manufacturing.

SMI – Air Force One – For Motorhome’s With Air Brakes

The Air Force One model from SMI stands above the competition as the only air brake system which does not require an electronic vacuum pump. There are no moving parts in the system to wear out or ever need replacing. It is also the only auxiliary braking system that has the safety feature that protects the motorhome from a loss of pressure due to tow vehicle separation.

  • Ease of installation, making it even easier to use
  • Utilizes the power brakes on the vehicle being towed instead of using brute force to slam down the towed vehicles brakes
  • Automatically matches the braking of the towed vehicle to match the motorhome’s brakes
  • It is safe for the motorhome’s air brakes in case of detachment from the vehicle being towed
  • Can be used with smaller vehicles up to the larger SUVs or trucks, even a Ford F-150
  • Reliable motorhome notification of how much the towed vehicles brakes have been used
  • All in one kit, no extras to purchase
  • It is small in size and ready to tow, once installed that’s it
  • Its simple technology along with its ease of use will give you years of trouble free driving

Universally compatible with all tow vehicles. From the smallest Fiat and smart car to serious off road SUV’s like Hummers or large diesel pickup trucks, the Air Force One braking system is already compatible.

SMI – Duo

The SMI Duo brake controller is a popular supplemental braking system because it is installed entirely under the hood. This means that you don’t have any extra equipment to move in your passenger area or have to have in the back while you are driving the tow vehicle. There is simply a control module installed under the hood and no physical connection to the motorhome. Duo is the most powerful self contained supplemental brake because it combines the gentleness of the vacuum and the power of air pressure.

  • Just turn it on and tow and go, no set-up is needed
  • Air pressure switches on the towed vehicle brake, while a vacuum activates the power brake system
  • Installation is concealed under the hood of the towed car
  • Entirely universal and transferable
  • Up to three times the normal panic braking effort
  • Simple single-pull activation – means no pulleys

Roadmaster – InvisiBrake

The InvisiBrake supplemental braking system uses the towed vehicles electrical harness to sync up the brakes in the motorhome and the tow vehicle. This means not having to add another connection just for your braking system. There is less to remember and less to go wrong when you don’t have extra wires running from the motorhome to the tow vehicle. InvisiBrake is completely out of sight, ready to use as soon as your umbilical cord is hooked up, and even charges the tow vehicle’s battery as you drive. InvisiBrake is so small, it can sometimes be mounted under the driver or passenger seat, behind interior panels or even in the trunk, without sacrificing any of the vehicle’s interior space. When you apply continuing braking force, the InvisiBrake does too- the longer you apply the brakes in the motorhome, the harder your towed vehicle will start to brake (InvisiBrake will not skid your tires).

  • It bypasses the motorhome’s 12-volt outlet and actually charges your battery – InvisiBrake connects to the towed vehicle’s battery and continuously charges the battery while towing
  • InvisiBrake includes a LED monitor for an easy visual reference of your braking activity; an audible alert in the motorhome will warn you how long you have been using the brakes
  • Only when the motorhome’s brake lights come on – no inaccurate braking!
  • Works in just about any towed vehicle – which includes those with ‘active’ braking systems
  • Comes with an emergency break away system
  • Can easily be adjusted to individual braking style
